Dealing With a Swollen EyelidOur eyes are probably the most sensitive part of our bodies. Any slight irritation can cause great discomfort. At one time or another, many people suffer from a swollen eyelid. This condition can be very irritating and even painful. In some cases, a liquid will be discharged from the eyes leaving the sufferer really afraid. Just what can be done with this condition?

In most cases, there really isn't any need to panic. Children for example are particularly prone to getting puffy eyelids because they tend to get their hands dirty and carelessly rub their eyes with them. Still, there are also more serious causes for the condition like some kind of allergy. You can determine the severity of what you have by its degree of pain. If your eye is only itchy and watery, you might just have some infection. On the other hand, if your eye is actually painful, you might have a more serious condition.

The first thing you should do is to stop rubbing your eyes! This only irritates your eyes more and won't help in reducing the swell. Then you can apply either warm or cold compress on the affected area. If the swell doesn't seem to reduce after a while, it would be a good idea to consult a doctor.
